“Hosanna!”

“Hosanna!” is a phrase from the Holy Bible used as an exclamation to the Lord meaning "Save us" signifying a plea for divine intervention. I found myself captivated by the universal symbol of the sun, an awe-inspiring celestial body. The sun’s radiant light, I believe carries divine messages which I interpreted and translated onto my canvas. I was also inspired by the book of Exodus from the Holy Bible, specifically chapter 3, verse 2. This verse narrates a divine encounter between Moses and an angel of the Lord; “And an angel of the Lord appeared onto him in flames of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed." This powerful imagery was a fundamental element for this work. I decided on a colour palette dominated by burnt sienna hues and rich gold, as they convey feelings of warmth, divinity and transcendence. Combining the earthy, tangible quality of burnt sienna with the divine, ethereal properties of gold captivates the connection between heaven and earth.
