Katie Mann

Contemporary Oil Painter

As part of a continuous investigation into the concept of the super-sensible, my work focuses on communicating elements beyond our immediate senses, including faith, religion, and metaphysics. Primarily working through oil on canvas, I infuse each piece with an array of vibrant hues to create a rich tapestry of abstract language. Using an intuitive process each stroke I make is deliberate, as I aim to bridge the gap between the physical and the metaphysical. The result is more than just a painting; it's a story told through colours and textures, a dialogue between the viewer and the artist, mediated by the canvas. Utilising abstract language as its own form of communication is crucial in expressing these ideas as I strive to depict the intangible through tangible forms.

My experiences in the Methodist and Evangelical churches during my formative years significantly influence my work. My personal experiences provide a basis for conveying these ideas. However, by using abstract language and symbolism, I present a universal narrative of spirituality that transcends denominational boundaries. I aim to reflect our continuous quest for understanding the divine, encompassing all faith perspectives.
